It's pretty much this place or maybe Fry's, that's it. Don't even consider Best Buy or Office Max, if they even have what you need in the first place. Micro Center gets my business over Fry's because of the knowledgeable staff. For example, it's one of the few places someone has actually tried to down sell me, on a video card currently priced at a premium because of demand for the thing for mining bitcoins. I bought it anyway because it was the ideal for my system, but I really respect that the guy suggested that I could get a better price on it later if I waited. I find that the staff in the parts department seem a little more up on things than the ones wandering the keyboard areas, but maybe it's just boring selling mice.
Good place to get good service and find what you need. Prices are good considering you don't have to wait for your stuff to be shipped and you can walk in and walk out. I'd rather come in and have it in my hands than buy online with no customer service. I only paid a few bucks more. Definitely looking here first.
Deducted one star because the staff is frequently overly aggressive about helping (since they make commission), and often I just want to browse without being hassled.

Micro Center has the most knowledgeable sales and tech staff for an electronics and computer retail chain. They will also match any advertised price, including mail order giants like Tiger Direct and NewEgg. Their 18-minute pickup when products are reserved in advance through the web is convenient and consistent.
I love Microcenter and prefer to go here for most of my electronic and computer related needs. The staff usually don't hassle you and they have a wide selection of all the tech devices you could want. I say usually because the last time I was in there looking at laptops, I had a sales associate come over and start asserting her opinions and being otherwise very pushy with what I NEEDED to buy, along with what accessories I NEEDED and software I NEEDED to buy from them. After that I don't think I'd buy a PC from here in the future. I'll still come here for parts and other gadgets, but I'll be doing my laptop and desktop shopping online where I won't be accosted by a sales associate pushing goods I don't actually need and belittling my opinion because "I don't know what I'm talking about".
